Why Psychotherapy?
"We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations."
Anaïs Nin
We come in different shapes and sizes; we are simple and complex, different yet similar. One of our main struggles is to achieve self-acceptance and banish unrealistic expectations of ourselves.
Engaging in therapy may be an opportunity for you to explore the different layers of yourself to enhance your life.
Everyone comes to therapy for different reasons. Some people come as a result of a critical event taking place, others because life has become too painful, meaningless and/or unmanageable. Whatever the reason, each has his or her own notion of what would enable them to feel more content with themselves.
Seeing a therapist, within a confidential, non-judgmental space, may enable you to explore and release difficult/painful areas of your life, confront and challenge your dilemmas, try out new ways of thinking and behaving that will encourage personal growth.
"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."
Anaïs Nin
